We went to the viewing of Arvin Lee Hansen
Bob and Marcia Beaver were their neighbors
on Burton Avenue for six years about 1969-1975.
In the photo below Walt is standing with the Beavers.
Bob has been Walt's barber since we came to
Burley.  Bob is retiring on Thursday, August 31.

Tuesday - August 29, 2017

The Rupert First Ward was overflowing
this morning for Arvin's funeral.

The white casket for Arvin was beautiful
He had been in the funeral business for 50 years.

Wednesday - August 30, 2017

We rendezvoused with Dale and Connie at the temple in Twin Falls for the three o'clock session.

One turned out better of Dale and Connie...
and one seemed better of Walt and me...
so I'm leaving both photos in.

It was my turn to choose the restaurant...
I chose Sizzler.
We love being with Dale and Connie each Wednesday.
Just ahead of us in the line at Sizzler were
Kirk Thompson (Lon's brother) and his wife.
She told me they'd come to go to the Dunkirk movie
at  5:00 but because of all the road work and delays
on the Perrine Bridge for chipping and sealing,
it had taken an hour from Jerome, so they were too
late for the movie.  I told her to read the movie synopsis before they went because it was the hardest
movie to follow we'd ever been too.
If you know what's going on, the movie scenes are
breathtaking.
We got home about 7:30.  We took the old Highway 30 back to Burley.  There were no delays on it now that it's chipping and resealing are finished.

Poor BYU Cougars. They just couldn't keep up with those LSU Tigers.
I wonder how many years it's been since the BYU Football Team was shut out?

Choice by Daniel. . .
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson.

For our testimonies tonight, we share a part of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland's witness of the Prophet Joseph Smith from Elder Holland's General Conference talk from 2009.
This is what our Sunday School teacher, Lydon Crane, close our Sunday School Class
with today on "Sealing Their Testimonies."

"...Love. Healing. Help. Hope. The power of Christ to counter all troubles in all times—including the end of times. That is the safe harbor God wants for us in personal or public days of despair. That is the message with which the Book of Mormon begins, and that is the message with which it ends, calling all to “come unto Christ, and be perfected in him.”6 That phrase—taken from Moroni’s final lines of testimony, written 1,000 years after Lehi’s vision—is a dying man’s testimony of the only true way.
May I refer to a modern “last days” testimony? When Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum started for Carthage to face what they knew would be an imminent martyrdom, Hyrum read these words to comfort the heart of his brother:
“Thou hast been faithful; wherefore … thou shalt be made strong, even unto the sitting down in the place which I have prepared in the mansions of my Father.
“And now I, Moroni, bid farewell … until we shall meet before the judgment-seat of Christ.”7
A few short verses from the 12th chapter of Ether in the Book of Mormon. Before closing the book, Hyrum turned down the corner of the page from which he had read, marking it as part of the everlasting testimony for which these two brothers were about to die. I hold in my hand that book, the very copy from which Hyrum read, the same corner of the page turned down, still visible. Later, when actually incarcerated in the jail, Joseph the Prophet turned to the guards who held him captive and bore a powerful testimony of the divine authenticity of the Book of Mormon.8 Shortly thereafter pistol and ball would take the lives of these two testators.
As one of a thousand elements of my own testimony of the divinity of the Book of Mormon, I submit this as yet one more evidence of its truthfulness. In this their greatest—and last—hour of need, I ask you: would these men blaspheme before God by continuing to fix their lives, their honor, and their own search for eternal salvation on a book (and by implication a church and a ministry) they had fictitiously created out of whole cloth?
Never mind that their wives are about to be widows and their children fatherless. Never mind that their little band of followers will yet be “houseless, friendless and homeless” and that their children will leave footprints of blood across frozen rivers and an untamed prairie floor.9 Never mind that legions will die and other legions live declaring in the four quarters of this earth that they know the Book of Mormon and the Church which espouses it to be true. Disregard all of that, and tell me whether in this hour of death these two men would enter the presence of their Eternal Judge quoting from and finding solace in a book which, if not the very word of God, would brand them as imposters and charlatans until the end of time? They would not do that! They were willing to die rather than deny the divine origin and the eternal truthfulness of the Book of Mormon."
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is the Redeemer and Savior of all.
The Prophet Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration and the Restorer of All Truths for The Last Dispensation of This World.

CASSIA COUNTY FAIR WEEK - August 14-19...
We went our Monday at noon for lunch...
Our Burley West Stake Booth (that is the one behind
us in the photo) wasn't open
until 5pm that evening, so we had our first
Fair hamburger at the Oakley Stake Booth.
Alisha and Ryan Robinson are in charge
of the Oakley Stake Booth for 3 years--2017-2019.
Here's the inside of the booth...
It was raining a little and chilly.
We had luck getting to park
inside the Fair Grounds at a
handicap spot.
First time I'd noticed the Sunflowers
were higher than our neighbor's roof.
Tuesday - August 15, 2017
Ou  We went to the Fair for supper. 11th ward was running our Stake Booth.  After we just did some walking around and got a scone.  I saw my cousin Sherrie Albertson Sellers and her husband, Leon.  His widowed sister was with them.  We sat by Leon's friend, Morris Goodfellow.

I had forgotten to take my camera, but got some photos on Walt's cell phone camera.  I don't know how to load them into the computer.
Wednesday - August 16, 2017
We went to the Fair Parade this morning.  We got there an hour early, so Walt went over to Bob Beaver's Barber Shoppe and got a haircut while we were waiting.
Our tradition is to sit in the shade
of the Post Office.
However, it soon has the sun moving
beyond it's shadow, so we hold our big
umbrella over us about the time
this photo was taken.

The DOT truck was so long that it took...
...took two phtos to get it all in.
Then John Craner, one of our great City Council men
drove by, stopped, and gave us some candy.
Here was a cute red airplane...
I couldn't get a photo of the Mexican
dancers before they had marched by...
Then another float came by with
more Mexican dancers.

 Some of the
Miss Mini-Cassia Scholastic winners
came by in a couple of convertables.

After the parade, we barely had time to
get ready to get over to our 3pm temple session.
Connie was in Salt Lake with Brad and Mary's
twins who have turned 8.  Dale and Connie have a
tradition of taking grandchildren on a one-day outing
when they turn baptism age.
Dale chose Kentucky Fried Chicken for supper...
I tried to get a photo of five-points in Twin...
I think I'm closer to five points now.
We went south to go on the old Highway 30
home to Burley so we miss all that construction
on the Interstate 84.

We got back to Burley at 7:05...just in time to teach our
7:30 Temple Preparation class to the Chandlers, which we
normally teach on Thursday evening.
They were planning to take their children to
the "Family Night Rodeo" when kids 12 and under
get in free with their parents.
