End of June - beginning of July...
How fast these Spriing and Summer months
are zooming by...

Happy Fourth of July

June 27, 2016 - Monday

We went to a very sad funeral. Heidi Neiwert Miller's husband, William Isaac "Ike" Miller, died unexpectedly at age 51 of a heart attack.  Walt was the bishop to Heidi's family as she was growing up--Garry and Vicki Neiwert and their three children Kirk, Heidi, and Tory.  Garry is not a member but I think a bishop is a bishop to member and non-member within his ward boundaries.  Garry is a wonderful man, a great husband and father.

Mary Jane Miller Vestal Bodily, the sister to Roy Miller and aunt to Ike Miller gave a tender life sketch.  She was a good friend of my mother when she lived in Gooding.  When she married Larry Bodily and moved to Wendell, she became best friends with Walt's sister Phyllis Petersen Bunn.
Here's Ike and Heidi's family--Heidi and her four children.
At the Paul Cemetery we talked with Walt's nephew Don's son Dale Aden...his wife Laura is a cousin or second cousin to Ike.   Ike's father, Roy Miller, had been a bishop of Wendell Ward in the 1970s and was so good to my elderly grandparents, Dave and Ella Huffaker.  Everyone loved Bishop Miller.
And from the speakers at the funeral today, everyone who knew Ike Miller loved him!
Vicki and Heidi invited us to come to the luncheon, where we sat by these dear friends, Greg and Vicki Rasmussen, who lived in Burley for many years, then moved to Utah, were in Meridian for a few years, have just returned from a mission to the St. George Visitors' Centers, and are now living in Clinton, Utah.
June 28, 2016 - Tuesday

Tuesday morning Debbie Henschied Poulson came to visit us.  She is a dear, dear friend who started as a nurse at the Cassia County Hospital about the same time Walt began his medical practice in Burley in 1966. What sweet memories we talked about together.
Debbie's parting words were: "I'm coming back.  I have lots more to talk about.  We look forward to her returning.
Opps, my eyes were closed.  I'll try the other photo.  Well, now I see why I took off my glasses.
It was a hot day.  Looks like our outdoor thermometer says "99ยบ!"

June 29, 2016 - Wednesday

We rendezvoused with Dale and Connie at the Twin Falls Temple.
We decided to take the photo as couples today.
A family was taking photos with their missionary son who received his endowment during the session we were in so we took our pictures from the side the the entrance.
Then Dale said he felt like having steak for supper, so we chose Jaker's.
We took the photos with the guys, then the gals.
We always love being with Dale and Connie.

June 30, 2016 - Thursday - June is ending for this year . . . Goodbye June - You've been a great month!
We went to the viewing for Jack Holland, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 80.,  His sweetheart, Julia, whom he fell in love with in Jr. High, passed away three years ago from complications of diabetes.
Jack was a pharmacist in Burley and as Walt said to one of his kids: "I made probably a thousand calls to your Dad." Their four adopted children were Jeff, Jodi, Jon, and JanaJane--all J's to go along with Jack and Julia.

July 1, 2016 - Friday - Hello, JU L Y!

This morning was the funeral of Jack Holland at the Second
Ward in the Chapel on 16th Street.  This was Bishop Walter Graham's first funeral since he was called as their bishop 6 weeks ago. He is a physician and his counselors are Wayne Blauer also an M.D., and Paul Foote, a PhD.

We welcomed July by having the missionaries come to supper.  And we also invited our dear friend and neighbor, Ruth Melling, to come.

next We served saucy pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn, fresh veggies of carrots, celery, and brocolli, and hot, homemade rolls.  Then for dessert we had strawberry shortcake.  We sent the left-over rolls home with the Elders.
July 2, 2016 - Saturday
We went to re-new the book "Hiroshima" at the Burley Library but they were closed Sat-Mon for the Fourth of July weekend.  So we drove out by the river.  It was heart-warming to see it crowded with families boating and pulling tubes.  We didn't see many water skiers.

July 3, 2016 - Sunday

For a few weeks now I've tried starting my blog week on Sunday but I like to end each post with our testimony, so I am going to end with Sundays again.  Thanks for letting me work on what works for us.

We had 16 share their testimonies today at Fast and Testimony Meeting: Bishop Gerratt, Lori Barrett (her last meeting here as they just bought a home in 7th Ward), Debbie Harrell, Granddaughter of David and Alice Hansen, Mindy Hale (YW President just back from Girls' Camp), David Hansen, Alan Fluckiger, Larry Carter, Vaughn Egan, A Priesthood--young father whom was visiting from out of town, (I think a son-in-law of David and Alice), Gloria Thompson, Little girl, Diane Fluckiger, MasonLudlow, Jossilyn Ludlow, Ashley Ludlow.

We hope you have had a peaceful and restful Sabbath Day.
We are thankful for our free United States of America and share our testimony that Heavenly Father sent the Founding Fathers to this earth at the time they were needed to declare this country to be free.
Heavenly Father was with George Washington and his soldiers to win the Revolutionary War.
Then Heavenly Father guided the men who established the Constitution in 1787 so that 33 years later He could begin the Restoration of The Gospel of Jesus Christ in the free United States of America.
Heavenly Father did this so He and His Son, Jesus Christ, could usher in The Restoration of His True Church to be established after The Great Apostasy and never be taken from the earth again in this, the Last Dispensation of the earth.
This happened in the Spring of 1820.
Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration.
Today, our living Prophet is Thomas S. Monson.
The Book of Mormon is the word of God - Another Testament of Jesus Christ.  The Bible is the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.
We look forward to the Second Coming of the Savior.
Of this we testify on Sunday, July 3, 2016.
In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

A fun game of Family Feud started the festivities.
At sundown a fire pit is started to end the day with S'mores.
I didn't get a photo of Friday night's fire pit, so am using one of Saturday night's.

June 25, 2016 - Saturday

WEPR - Day 2 - Full day of Family Reunion
We had 25 of the 59 who were able to come.
Just gonna post the family photo, then add the rest of the photos of the activities later.
Trying to brighten family photo with auto correct in photo file.
trying again

Janie and Michael had a fun promptu jitter-bug in the kitchen before Janie left for home -- Rexburg, Idaho about 9:00.
Jordan and Heidi will bring Michael home tomorrow.
Julie and John and family did a great job with the "Survivor" Family Reunion for this year!
A BIG THANK YOU TO THEM!
June 26, 2016 - Sunday
Today most of the families left for their homes--in Utah.

By 10:20, everyone except Jordan, Heidi, and Michael were on their way home.
The cousins love being together. It's hard to say "Goodbye."
Here's Anna and Jacee at the time of departure...
Anna is 15, Jacee is 13.

We went from 8 vehicles parked in the driveway and in front of our home to just 2 again.
After Sacrament Meeting Jordan and Heidi were headed to our home to have some lunch, then they were heading to Rexburg. They are both students at BYU-Idaho and have been dating for a couple of months.  Heidi is 19. Jordan is from one of the towns near Rexburg, did his mission in the Philippines, and is majoring in Auto Design Mechanics.  Heidi is majoring in (didn't hear what she said) and with all of her ballroom dance credits may minor in that.

Note: I did end up using more than one per day. But there are several more to add....but I'm calling it a day for now.

We appreciate and love all of our family.  We so enjoyed being with those who could come and missed those who could not.
