Hello everyone!

This week is going to be a real short email just to make sure the email list works, and there are no complications! If anything isn’t working for you, let me know!

The virtual MTC has not been bad at all! It can be a lot of sitting and zoom, but I have felt the Spirit more this week than I have in a long period of time and I have also learned SO MUCH and have been starting to get answers to some questions which is always great.

I am excited to get to the in person MTC and fully lock in and get dialed on the work and the language (Cuidado con Satanás!)

I love you all very much and I know the Lord loves you too! Don’t have too much fun without me and go read 3 Nephi 14:9-11 it is supa hot fya!!

Mother in Heaven
The doctrine of a Heavenly Mother is a cherished and distinctive belief among Latter-day Saints. As Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has said, “Our theology begins with heavenly parents. Our highest aspiration is to be like them.” While there is no record of a formal revelation to Joseph Smith on this doctrine, some early Latter-day Saint women recalled that he personally taught them about a Mother in Heaven. The earliest published references to the doctrine appeared shortly after Joseph Smith’s death in 1844, in documents written by his close associates. The most notable expression of the idea is found in a poem by Eliza R. Snow entitled “My Father in Heaven” and now known as the hymn “O My Father.” This text declares: “In the heav’ns are parents single? / No, the thought makes reason stare; / Truth is reason—truth eternal / Tells me I’ve a mother there.”
Subsequent Church leaders have affirmed the existence of a Mother in Heaven. In 1909, the First Presidency taught that “all men and women are in the similitude of the universal Father and Mother, and are literally the sons and daughters of Deity.” Susa Young Gates, a prominent leader in the Church, wrote in 1920 that Joseph Smith’s visions and teachings revealed the truth that “the divine Mother, [is] side by side with the divine Father.” And in “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” issued in 1995, the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles declared, “Each [person] is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny.”

have made jam and juice with the apricots.

Julie asked Dr. Kimball if I could have

some home health help. Utah Home Health

sent a representative out today to interview

me and see if I was eligible.

Christopher said he thought some in-home

physical therapy would be helpful with

my balance problem.

However, what Julie was also hoping for

to have my prescriptions delivered is not

available until hospice care.

I am so thankful for the cozy cottage

Julie & John have made for

Walt and me here in their

home, and now that Walt

has been living in heaven

for almost 4 years, I

have not had to live alone.

They are looking out for me so well,

as are our other six children and spouses.

I feel very blessed.

The Boys in the Boat** is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film produced and directed by George Clooney from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, based on the 2013 book of the same name by Daniel James Brown. The film follows the University of Washington rowing team, and their quest to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics. It stars Joel Edgerton as coach Al Ulbrickson Sr. and Callum Turner as rower Joe Rantz.
The Boys in the Boat had its world premiere in Los Angeles on December 11, 2023, and was theatrically released by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution in the United States on December 25. It has grossed $55 million.

Preston thinks they can help

Obituary for Nathan "Mac" McKay Smith

Nathan "Mac" McKay Smith, a beloved mentor, educator, and devoted family man, passed away on July 29, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on April 22, 1935, in Wendell, Idaho, to Vaunda and Blair Smith. He loved to share his amazing birth story where he was delivered on his Grandma Hawkes' kitchen table and lovingly placed in her oven to keep warm. He thoughtfully documented these cherished stories for his family and they will continue to bless his posterity for years to come. Nathan was a dedicated individual who made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.

Nathan's passion for sports shone through during his high school years, where he earned varsity letters in football, basketball, track, and baseball. His exceptional skills and commitment led to him being selected as an all-conference end in football during his senior year. Additionally, he qualified for the state track meet as a high jumper, showcasing his athleticism and determination.

After graduating from high school in 1953, Nathan married his sweetheart Joyce Carman-Smith and they were later sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with five children: Nathan Jr. (Phyllis), Jeffery (Doreen), Pamela Grace (Kim), Russell (Yolanda), and Kristen Darling (David). Nathan's devotion to his family was unwavering, and he cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Nathan joined the U.S. Air Force shortly after his wedding. He served with distinction and was honorably discharged in 1957, having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant with four stripes. During his time in active duty, he spent one and a half years stationed in Japan.
Nathan studied at Eastern Oregon College, where he earned his teaching degree and a Masters in Education at Oregon State University. He then embarked on a fulfilling career in education, teaching for five years before seizing an opportunity to become an assistant librarian at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Not one to rest on his laurels, Nathan pursued further education, earning a Masters in Library Science and a Ph.D. in Zoology during his time at BYU. He went on to serve as the Dean of The School of Library Science for 11 years, making significant contributions to the field. Nathan was honored to be listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and in American Men and Women of Science.

Nathan will always be remembered for his strong character, humility, and unwavering dedication. He was a mentor and friend to many, always ready to offer guidance and support. His pursuit of knowledge and commitment to education shaped the lives of countless individuals.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Joyce, his five children, and his sister Barbara. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter. His legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Oak Hills 4th Ward Church, 925 East North Temple Drive in Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Monday, August 5, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Friday, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.

Teachings of Russell M. Nelson manual By Church News · August 1, 2024

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released portions of the aggregated teachings of President Russell M. Nelson on Thursday.
Four different chapters of teachings, published on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, were released in 12 languages: Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog and Tongan.
The “Teachings of Presidents of the Church” series was launched in 1997, bringing together key themes of a particular prophet’s ministry, with a new volume released approximately yearly and becoming text for Sunday discussion among members. Four chapters are now available exploring President Nelson’s teachings on “The Atonement of Jesus Christ,” “Faith in Jesus Christ,” “The Abrahamic Covenant” and “Revelation for Our Lives.”
While previous manuals were released only after a prophet’s death, this is the first time a “Teachings” manual has been released concurrent with a continuing ministry. The living manual will be updated as an online document as President Nelson continues his ministry into his 100th year next month, on Sept. 9.
Latter-day Saints believe that God works through living prophets today — just like Moses, Isaiah, Peter, and Paul were called in the old world and Nephi, Mormon and Alma were called in the Americas anciently to testify of Jesus Christ and teach His gospel.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ sustained President Nelson as prophet, seer, and revelator and the 17th president of the church on Jan. 14, 2018, looking to him collectively as the only person on the earth who receives revelation to guide the entire church.

Temple Session for Spirits...

In 2002 - 2004 my husband and I were temple missionaries in the Washington D.C. temple. During the week there were very few people attending. We held many sessions with just the witness couple drawn from other temple workers. We dicussed it and wondered out loud to each other if that was a waste of time. Then one day during one of these empty room sessions, while standing in the front of the room, my husband said the back wall vanished and as far as he could see were spirits attending that session. It was made known to him they were learning and being taught beyond the veil. From then on the empty sessions were no longer empty in our eyes.
