On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020.
Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses-- Shawn, Julie, John, Jennifer, Jerry--our 39 grandchildren--10 spouses of G-C, and 7 great-grandchildren, with one on the way in December--for a posterity of 68.

Tonight was a hard night. I said goodbye to this amazing kid!!! Blake has been like a son to me and a brother to my Matthew and I will miss him so much. He is headed to the Dominican Republic for 2 years to share Christ's gospel and love. I know he will be an amazing missionary and I can't wait to hear all about his adventures and experiences. I love you Blakey!!!

Today

The First Fully Electrified High School

It’s a well-known part of Idaho history that Arco, Idaho

was the first city in the world to use electricity generated by

a nuclear reactor. Less well-known is that Rupert High School,

which opened in 1913, was the first fully electrified school

in the United States.

In February 1913, the Rupert Pioneer Record called it the

“only school building in the world heated exclusively with

electricity and having no other provision for other heat.”

The electrification of the high school was made possible

by the nearby Minidoka Dam. The dam’s primary

purpose was irrigation, but they didn’t let that pent-up

energy go to waste. The dam was completed in 1904

without any method of generating power. The power

turbines came along in 1909-1910,

making the surrounding area one of the first rural areas

in the US to have power.
Eileen's note: My Dad's father, Clarence
Albertson, homesteaded by this Minidoka Dam
in 1909 or 1910, just when those
turbines would have been put in.
My Dad, Arnold Albertson, was born at this
homestead on Dec. 8, 1912, Jackson, Idaho --
a farming area by Rupert, which is in Cassia County
because it's on the south side of the Snake River.
My Dad also died in Cassia County when he was
at the Burley Hospital as a patient of Dr. Leo Brown
and Dr. Walter Petersen. He was in the final stages of
a 7-month struggle with colon cancer which he
lost on Feb. 6, 1982.
If any of our kids are reading yhis--you need to get
a colonoscopy because Walt's sister, Bonnie, also
died of colon cancer, so you have it on both
sides of your family genes.

What a special day to see the

Priesthood in action. The Stake

President, Jordan Erickson,said in

Sacrament Meeting that when he

called Roger Cheney in to issue the

call last Sunday, Roger told him he

had known for two months

he would be called and

had his counselors chosen.

Long ago in our Burley Stake,

President Matthews (the one W

alt followed) told us that often

a new Bishop knows ahead.

We are in good company. Look around you today and notice the good. Do all the good you can. And live joyfully in the hope of the Lord."
