 Our Wednesday night movie

"It received its world premiere at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival on February 20, 2023. It was released in the United States  on August 25, 2023 and is scheduled to be released in the

Family is Everything…

                                          Just kind of a

catch up day of odds and ends.

I just saw this on facebook:

Russell M. Nelson

Thank you for your prayers for me during the last two months. My recovery from my fall in September when I injured the muscles in my back has been rigorous. I have needed your prayers.

The apostle James taught that the effectual fervent prayers of righteous men and women “availeth much.” Your prayers opened the heavens, and the Lord is blessing me.

Your prayers have lifted my spirits and bolstered my courage and my great desire to soldier on. In short, the Lord has responded to your prayers and expressions of love, and He is helping me to heal.

I am grateful to report that throughout the last two months, I have been able to attend most meetings of the First Presidency virtually. Now I am slowly returning to the office on selected days while continuing to use technology as needed.

The work of the Lord continues to move on, under His direction. Thirty-six new missions will be created in 2024. The Lord is truly hastening His work, and we are blessed to be part of it.

Thank you again, my dear brothers and sisters. You have blessed me to feel the power of prayer and the reality of the Lord’s love in a most personal way. I love you!

 Saratoga Springs 3rd Ward

10:23 - Relief Society began 13 minutes past the
             scheduled time of 10:10, because
             Sacrament Meeting went overtime

Joanne Lyon, president, conducting

A new member of the ward introduced herself:
Annette Lauritzen from Kanab. She and her husband, Brent, have moved in with their son, Ken at 44 East Wildhorse Road.

Also, Cynthia Rubio introduced herself as a new member of the ward.
Isabella Luedtke was visiting her parents this weekend.

Kathy Skousen taught the lesson.  The Spirit said to her a few weeks ago to accept all assignments. So when Francine called her last night and asked her if she would teach the lesson this morning, her decision was already made.

And then she had family come. But she said she knew she would be among friends today, and we would all help her.

The lesson is from the Saturday afternoon session of this past General Conference:

Preserving the Voice of the Covenant People in the Rising Generation                                                                By Brother Jan E. Newman                                                                                                            Second Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency
"One of our most sacred responsibilities is to help our children come to know deeply and specifically that Jesus is the Christ."

Kathy shared the opening of his talk when he told about the Resurrected Savior coming to the Nephites and gathering their children around Him and blessing them.

She then wrote our challenge on the board: Invites us to bring them [our children] to Him.

Next was the scripture about the wise man who built his house on the rock and it stood.

Our challenge: Each person needs to build own foundation.

"This kind of strength doesn’t just happen. It is not passed on to the next generation like a spiritual inheritance. Each person must dig deep to find the rock.

We learn this lesson from another account in the Book of Mormon. When King Benjamin gave his final address to his people, they gathered as families to hear his words. King Benjamin bore powerful witness of Jesus Christ, and the people were deeply moved by his testimony..."

Kathy pointed out that their children did not remember about King Benjamin and '...they were a separate people as to their faith.”

"What a sobering thought! For the rising generation, it’s not enough for faith in Jesus Christ to be “the tradition of their fathers.” They need to own faith in Christ for themselves. As the covenant people of God, how can we instill within the hearts of our children a desire to make and keep covenants with Him?"

Kathy then shared this third challenge: We need to own our faith in Christ and our children need to own faith in Christ for themselves.

My grandkids are like yours--some strong in the Gospel and some not.  Remember the story of Mordecai when Esther had all her people fast with and for her... Esther 4;14

Kathy showed a T-shirt she had made for her grandchildren that said:                                                                                            "Perhaps you were Created for such a time as this --Ether 4:14"

We learn from everyone. Kathy asked "Who has made your life better?" While we were thinking of someone, she shared that for her it was a Young Woman leader who would ask Kathy every time she saw her "How are you doing?" Kathy added that this made a big difference for the better in her life.

Kathy shared an experience of a sister moving into a new ward and feeling lonely and sad. One morning her doorbell rang. It was the Relief Society president, in curlers and some old clothes, who told this newcomer to the ward: "I just had an impression that I should come over to see you. Is something wrong?"

This lonely sister shared her troubles, feeling like she wasn't alone any more and had a new friend who cared about her.

Annette Lauritzen (who moved here last week from Kanab) said that she was not raised religiously. Our children married in the temple. I was baptized 21 years ago in Kanab.  We just started to go to church there to meet our neighbors. Because we felt the spirit, and from the example of the people, we were converted and baptized.

Samantha Warner shared that she had a non-member friend who was challenged to read one of the Standard Works, so chose The Pearl of Great Price because it was the shortest. She felt the sprit of these scriptures.

Kathy shared that when the Church applied to build the BYU Jerusalem Center they had to sign that there would be no proselyting. Then someone asked , "But how do you keep the Light from shining from the BYU students' eyes?"

"As the covenant people of God, how can we instill within the hearts of our children a desire to make and keep covenants with Him?

"We can start by following the example of Nephi: 'We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.' 2 Nephi 25:26"

This reminded Sister Eileen Petersen that we are a chosen people. "We told our missionaries often: 'We are a chosen people.'  Chosen to work."

To which Kathy replied, Yes, go and do; Here am I, send me; Thy will be done.

"I love this counsel from President Russell M. Nelson: “Where can we go to hear Him?

“We can go to the scriptures. They teach us about Jesus Christ and His gospel, the magnitude of His Atonement, and our Father’s great plan of happiness and redemption. Daily immersion in the word of God is crucial for spiritual survival, especially in these days of increasing upheaval. As we feast on the words of Christ daily, the words of Christ will tell us how to respond to difficulties we never thought we would face.”

"So what does it look like to feast on the words of Christ and hear Him? Well, it looks like whatever works best for you! It might be gathering with your family to talk about the things the Holy Ghost taught you in your scripture study using Come, Follow Me. It might be gathering each day with your children to read a few verses from the scriptures and then looking for opportunities to discuss what you learned as you spend time together. Just find what works for you and your family; then try to do a little better each day."

Jennie Andersen shared that her daughter in Fort Worth, Texas, has their children share the four S's every day:              Something sweet, sour, service, search.                                  Search is how they saw the Hand of God in their lives that day. Jennie said she has seen these grandchildren become more aware of what's going on in their life and how the Hand of God does help them by doing the four S's every day.

Madeleine Summers, who was sustained as a new Relief Society teacher today, said that their children love to hear their own experiences about Colt and her. They connect to things that happened to us. We help them recognize that the spirit was there.

Liken the scriptures unto yourselves. Jesus taught with stories and with parables. Teach your children about their grandparents' lives. With the history my Dad and Mom left, I got those stories to our children.

Paul and I were asked to do a tour group of Chinese at the Capitol. The tour guide was getting some of the U.S. history wrong. Before Paul and Kathy could say anything, the Chinese said:  That's what happened in China when the Communists changed our history and we lost our freedoms.  Don't leave your heroes out.

Brother Newman ended with :"My dear friends in Christ, you are doing much better than you think. Just keep working at it. Your children are watching, listening, and learning. As you teach them, you will come to know their true nature as beloved sons and daughters of God..."

Kathy closed with her experience of being consistent in your efforts. She said that she sees her grown children doing some of the same things Paul and she did and/or taught them when they were young--even though they sometimes rolled their eyes and groaned.

She was surprised to see her Dad writing in a journal. He told her he did it because the Prophet [President Kimball] asked them to keep a journal.

"Those moments when the Holy Ghost speaks to them will persist in their hearts and minds. And one day your children will echo the testimony of Enos: I know my parents are just, 'for [they] taught me … in the nurture and admonition of the Lord—and blessed be the name of my God for it.' "

Alissa Allen was thankful in the closing prayer for Kathy's lesson that we can use in our lives this week.

Kathy has a genuine, sweet spirit about her. She said she had made this ceramic in Relief Society several years ago of Christ with the little children.

When I saw Kathy at the Ward Relief Society "Friendsgiving Christmas dinner" on Thursday, Nov 16, I told her I was impressed with her teaching such a wonderful lesson with only a few hours notice. She said it was only with the help of the Spirit that she was able to do it.

Ww enjoy talking to each other...

...after Relief Society is over...

...before we dash off to our various homes.

Madeleine Summers, sustained today as a Relief Society teacher talks with our wonderful Relief Society president, Joanne Lyon.

We are thankful for all we learn in Relief Society and miss being with those sisters who are not able to be with us twice a month because of callings in Primary, Young Women, or are home with personal or family health problems, or other concerns.

We know we are all part of the Sisterhood of Relief Society and pray for each others welfare and safe keeping along the Covenant Path.

When

“I testify that the most important day in the history of mankind was the day when Jesus Christ, the living Son of God, won the victory over death and sin for all of God’s children. And the most important day in your life and mine is the day when we learn to “behold the man”; when we see Him for who He truly is; when we partake with all our heart and mind of His atoning power; when with renewed enthusiasm and strength, we commit to follow Him. Because of Jesus Christ, we will rise from the despair of death and embrace those we love, shedding tears of overwhelming joy and overflowing gratitude. Because of Jesus Christ, we will exist as eternal beings, worlds without end.”  ~Dieter F. Uchtdorf

** *I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.

At the end of this November 12th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.

Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

***  *** *** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
