Traces of Time . . . March 18-24, 2024

Traces of Time . . . .

{Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.}                "Time moves slowly, but passes quickly.                               The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

"The magical, supernatural force
that is with us every second is time.
We can't even comprehend it.

 It's such an illusion,

it's such a strange thing."

— Anthony Hopkins

Note from Eileen: You will notice I call                              my blog: "Traces of Time..."

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020 at age 86.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 9 spouses married to our grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 due in April and posterity to come.

So our posterity now numbers 66. Number 67 due in April.

I am always interested in learning more about...
The Abrahamic Covenant.                                                                In summarizing the promises of the Abrahamic covenant, Pres. Russell M. Nelson said:                                                                 “The covenant … is of transcendent significance...

It contained several promises: “Abraham’s posterity would be numerous, entitled to eternal increase and to bear the priesthood; “He would become a father of many nations;     “Christ and kings would come through Abraham’s lineage; “Certain lands would be inherited; “All nations of the earth would be blessed by his seed;                                                     “That covenant would be everlasting—even through ‘a thousand generations’” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1995, 42;                     or Ensign, May 1995, 33).

Movie Night with Gary....

Wed, March 20
 was from 1949...
In the Good Old Summertime
The film is a musical adaptation of the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner, which was directed by Ernst Lubitsch, starring James StewartMargaret Sullavan, and Frank Morgan, and written by Miklós László, based on his 1937 play Parfumerie. For In the Good Old Summertime, the locale has been changed from 1930s Budapest to turn-of-the-century Chicago, but the plot remains the same. The plot was also revived in the 1998 film You've Got Mail, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Movie Night with Gary...

 from 1998
You've Got Mail is a 1998 romantic comedy featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in their third and final screen pairing (after Joe Versus the Volcano and Sleepless in Seattle). It was directed by Nora Ephron, who co-wrote the screenplay with her sister Delia. It's loosely based on Miklós Lászlo's theatrical play Parfumerie (which had previously been adapted into the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner, the 1949 musical film In the Good Old Summertime, and the 1963 stage musical She Loves Me).

               Family is Everything…
 Today

With God, however, even an empty storage unit reminds me that none of the stuff we have here is worth holding onto. Better is coming. The one who rose from the grave never to die again has prepared a home for us that needs no storage shed for our junk. That’s because everything of real value will already be there

FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2024

Family is Everything…
Funeral today for a
Wendell High School friend,
Joyce Stephenson Cox
sister of our Senior Class
president, David Stephenson.
Official Obituary of

Joyce (Stephenson) Cox

April 12, 1936 ~ March 15, 2024 (age 87)

Joyce Cox Funeral Service Broadcast

Joyce S. Cox, of Wendell, Idaho, passed away on the 15th of March, 2024, from cardiac arrest.  She was 87 years old and the mother of ten children – five sons and five daughters.

Joyce was born in Preston, Idaho, on April 12, 1936, to Loran and Virginia Stephenson.  The family moved to Wendell when she was 9 months old and she spent all of her growing up years learning how to care for things in the home, doing outside chores and working in the fields with her sisters.  Riding horses was one of her favorite pastimes during those years.

She got an early start learning to play the piano when her sister brought home practice assignments from her piano lessons.  Joyce would listen to her practice and then sit at the piano and pick out the notes and play the music.  She was 6 years old at the time.  In high school she wanted to play in the band and after trying out on a few different instruments, she began playing the French horn.  She continued playing the French horn through her university years and played in the Brigham Young University Philharmonic orchestra during her time there.

Joyce married Gary Cox on December 13, 1957.  When he graduated from BYU, they were on their way to his career in the United States Air Force which took her to Germany and many different stations in the United States.  She loved to travel and see and learn new things.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served as a teacher and leader in various capacities including being a seminary, Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary teacher.  She served with her husband as a humanitarian service missionary in Mongolia from 1994 to 1995 and then returned to Mongolia as the “mission mom” to up to 60 young missionaries from 1996 to 1999.  They were then asked to serve in South Africa from 2003 to 2004, visiting 14 African countries as humanitarian service missionaries.  Shortly after returning home, they were called to return to Alaska where she served as the temple matron at the Anchorage Alaska Temple from 2004 to 2007.  She was actively serving as an ordinance worker in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple and being the ward music chairperson at the time of her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

(Loran, Garth, David, Lynn, OpalJean, Patricia).

She is survived by her sister - Carol Dye; her husband - Gary Cox; and her ten children - Keri Lynn Huntsman (Doug), Jordan R. Cox (Amy), Gary R. Cox (Linda), Lisa Jan Nelson (Dean), Denise Smoot (Scott), Michelle Olsen (Brian), David B. Cox (Christianne), Stephen B. Cox (Rebecca), Paul C. Cox (Laurie), and Lori V. Marsh (Chris); 65 grandchildren and 110 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wendell.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Wendell L.D.S. Church, with a viewing to be held from 9:30 am until 10:45 am.

Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service - Wendell Chapel.

I watched her funeral online. Her ten children spoke. Her oldest daughter,  Keri, gave the life sketch, which was about 20 minutes, then the other 9 children only took less than 3 minutes each, plus the children and their spouses sang "Homeward Bound," and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren sang "I Am a Child of God," ending with the Stake President and Bishop's remarks.

The funeral ended at 12:10, so it was only   1 hour and ten minutes total, which is short these days for a funeral.

I was very impressed with each one of her children. Gary & Joyce have raised wonderful children.

I remember Joyce's Dad and Mom with fondness, and all her siblings were part of my growing up years in Wendell and in the Wendell Ward.

"Ordinary Angels" based on a true story...

Infomation from Wikipedia

"Ordinary Angels is a 2024 American faith-based drama film. ...based on true events that transpired during the 1994 North American cold wave. It stars Hilary SwankAlan RitchsonNancy Travis, and Tamala Jones.

The film was released by Lionsgate on February 23, 2024. It received generally positive reviews from critics and has grossed $18 million.

Premise  Inspired by a true story, in 1994 Louisville, Kentucky, a hairdresser rallies the community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill young daughter after Louisville is hit by a major snowstorm from the 1994 North American cold wave."

My friend, Jeanie Larson said: "If
people don't cry during the ending of
this movie, they're not normal."
Steve and I both cried.

*I am so thankful for The Plan of Salvation and the Atonement of  Jesus Christ that makes this Great Plan operational.
At the end of this March 24th,

I pray you have had a

restful , peaceful, and spiritual

Sabbath Day...

I share these truths as my testimony to you...

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.
*** *** ***
Jesus Christ came to earth as The Only Begotten of the Father and fulfilled the Atonement. He is the Redeemer of all.
*** *** ***
I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Ghost as the third member of the Godhead.
Walt said to me once: "I look forward to thanking the Holy Ghost in person when I get to Heaven. I don't think we give Him enough credit for all He does."

***  *** *** *** ***
Joseph Smith was foreordained to be the Prophet of the Restoration.  He is the Restorer of all things.
*** *** ***
President Russell M. Nelson is the Living Prophet today for all the world.
*** *** ***
The Bible is "the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly" and is a Testament of the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
*** *** ***
The Book of Mormon is the Word of God and is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. It is the most correct book of any book on earth.
*** *** ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the True Church on the earth today.  Because of the restored Temple Ordinances families can be sealed for eternity.

Of these truths I testify in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Movie Night with Gary...

Wed, March 27
 was from 1998...
