Traces of Time . . . January 8-14, 2024

Traces of Time . . .             {Last week: Scroll to end and click "Older Posts" at bottom right.}          "Time moves slowly, but passes quickly.                               The Color Purple” by Alice Walker, 1982

"The magical, supernatural force
that is with us every second is time.
We can't even comprehend it.

 It's such an illusion,

it's such a strange thing."

Note from Eileen: You will notice I call                              my blog: "Traces of Time..."

On this blog I share with family and friends my daily thoughts, doings, what interests me, and--at times--tributes to my eternal sweetheart, Walt, who graduated to heaven on 8-21-2020 at age 86.

Dedicated to our seven children--Janie, Gary, Steve, David, Julie, Brian, Jen, their spouses, our 39 grandchildren, 9 spouses married to our grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 due in April and posterity to come.

So our posterity now numbers 66. Number 67 due in April.

Family is Everything..                             Sunrise: 7:50 a.m.

             Sunset:  5:18 p.m.

  Julie drove me to my
doctor's appointment today.

I don't feel safe anymore
driving on busy roads,
like Redwood, so I have
become dependent on others.
I still feel okay driving
in our residential area
to church, except now
my car is covered with snow
and too slippery area
to get too.
Dr. Kimball said my A1C of 8.1 today is
higher than normal, but that at my age
they are now saying "just stay below
your age" -- which I guess for me at
age 85 would be 8.5. So I'm okay.
Lots of snow still, but
it didn't snow today.

Found out a famous artist
in Burley died today.
I don't know if any of our
kids knew her or about her.
Walt and I went through
her art gallery several times.
She had built it behind her
parent's home when she
returned to Burley.
Seems like it was on Miller Avenue.

Marilyn R Miller

May 24, 1942 - Jan. 8, 2024

Date of Service: Jan. 17, 2024

BURLEY – Marilyn R Miller, an 81-year-old resident of Burley, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at Parke View Rehabilitation and Care Center in Burley.

She was born May 24, 1942, in Paul, Idaho, the daughter of James Wayne and Ruthilda Robertson Miller. Her parents were the owners/operators of Miller Drug in Burley. Marilyn graduated from Burley High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Marilyn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served from 1964 to 1966 in the Southern Far East Mission; her mission responsibilities and service were in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Additionally, she served in the Relief Society and Primary organizations, and was an ordinance worker in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple.

She was a lifelong artist and was a renowned oil painter. Her beautiful paintings adorn homes and businesses throughout the Mini-Cassia area and beyond. She also was an expert in quilting, weaving, and making Christmas cards from the paper she made. Both her art work and quilts were often a beloved attraction at the Cassia County Fair. The community will remember the gorgeous flowers she grew in her flower garden. Oftentimes tours were given during the summer months for the community to enjoy her garden and the fine music played from local musicians throughout the area. Many of the musicians were students of Jolene Hobson.

Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Nola Ann Hess of Emmett, and Judith Marie Reep of West Valley City, Utah; her nieces and nephews, Jim (Karla) Hess, Royce Allen (Kathy) Hess, Laura (Jim) Ferch, Phillip (DeLite) Hess, David (Carmen) Reep, Richard (Meggan) Reep, Aaron (Sherry Ann) Reep, Mary (Tyler) Fuller, and Amy (Dave) Phillips; a special aunt, Glenna Whitaker of Burley; and her friends in the community and the members of the Burley 5th Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Hess.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley Idaho West Stake Center, located at 2420 Parke Avenue in Burley, where family and friends will be received from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery.

A live webcast of the Funeral Service will be available and maintained at the following link: https://youtu.be/9_nIm8v44jk.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

               Family is Everything…
 Our friend, Karen's obituary
was just posted today. She and Ross
were our neighbors in Burley
from 1968 to 2005--37 years.

Karen Taylor

1937-2024

Karen Wamsley Taylor passed away peacefully in the company of loved ones on January 2, 2024. She was much loved and will be deeply missed..

Karen was born October 27, 1937 to Milford Bryson and Edna Lucille Allen Wamsley in Garden City, Utah. It was there she learned the value of hard work and education as the daughter of a farmer, business owner and schoolteacher. She was very social and had a group of friends from her schoolgirl days that stayed in touch and got together right up to the last year of her life.

Karen had boundless energy and wore many hats. She was a flight attendant for Western Airlines, was in the first class of graduating Registered Nurses from Weber State College, and after marrying and having children, went back to school to get a degree in Education from Drake University.

It was while flying for Western Airlines out of Denver that Karen met Ross Pratt Taylor. They were married in her hometown of Garden City, Utah on December 26, 1959. Their union was later solemnized in the LDS Logan Temple. She instantly became stepmother to Mike, Mark, and Greg Taylor.

Right after marrying, Karen and Ross settled in Cheyenne Wyoming, where Ross worked for International Harvester and Karen worked as a nurse. It was there that they welcomed their daughter, Leslie, to the family.

A transfer took the family to Des Moines, Iowa, where she returned to school to obtain a degree in Education. Ross and Karen welcomed their son, Aaron, to the family while living in Iowa.

In 1968, the family moved to Burley, Idaho where they would raise their children and make lifelong friends. Burley is where Karen spent her career as a schoolteacher. She taught 2nd and 3rd graders at Dworshak Elementary School for 18 years. While she adored her schoolkids, she also loved nursing. She continued working as an Emergency Department nurse during school breaks at Cassia County Memorial Hospital.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Karen served in the Young Women’s organization many times, the Relief Society and as the Compassionate Service Leader.

After retiring, she and Ross moved to Salt Lake City [in Feb 2005] in order to be Temple Square Missionaries. Later, they were volunteer guides at the new LDS Conference Center. Karen was privileged to serve as a Mission Nurse for the Salt Lake City Mission for nearly 10 years.

Karen was tireless in her service to others. Whether that be professionally as their schoolteacher or their nurse, or as a friend or family member. She travelled far and wide to help cook for friends’ children’s weddings, paint houses, hang wallpaper, care for grandchildren and great grandchildren, and care for people during times of need.

Never one to sit still, Karen had numerous hobbies. Lucky are those who have a bed or a couch adorned with one of her quilts! In addition to being a talented quilter, Karen was an accomplished singer who loved performing in various Sweet Adeline's groups, despite the endless teasing she took from her children about their choreography. She sewed dresses for her granddaughters, knitted everything from blankets to dishcloths, and was an excellent cook – though yeast breads were her nemesis.

Throughout her life, but especially in her later years, Karen’s great love was spending time with her family. She had a very special relationship with her great grandchildren who lovingly call her GiGi. They learned early on that there were always treats to be had at her house, but they had to be eaten “on the tile!” She loved attending soccer, lacrosse, and football games; dance and piano recitals; and theater productions.

Karen is preceded in death by her loving husband Ross, who passed away three months prior to her, her parents and her brother Reed Wamsley. She is survived by her brother Alan, her stepsons Mike, Mark, and Greg, children Leslie and Aaron, nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, January 19th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary at 1007 W South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Interment will be in the Garden City Cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 20th, 2024. A Celebration of Life honoring Karen will follow later in the Spring in her beloved Garden City.

Here's what I had texted earlier:

Eileen texted to our lunch bunch:

Gals, I'm going to pass on lunch bunch today. I don't feel safe getting from the car into the restaurant, not knowing how snowy their parking lot is. I've become a wimp at age 85. Will miss you all. Please take  a photo of the group. Thanks.

 Eileen

Sharon texted back for the group:

We’ll miss you, Eileen.

 I texted back:

I am missing all of you, too . And I got ready to go, even. Didn't go to Church Sunday for same reason, even tho my ministering bro--Jason R--called to say he would drive me since JJ were at Nick's mission "farewell." 😊 Here's to sunnier, clear non- slippery days.😊 💜 The old lady of lunch bunch...Eileen

It snowed 3" or more today....
I saw something about the

Unreal!

"Super Bowl Tickets Are Costliest Ever, Averaging $7,542 a Seat

  • Fans are paying over $7,000 on average,
  • more than double 2017."

               Family is Everything…
My computer shows
18º today.
Just glad I'm not in
Great Falls, Montana.
The news just said it was
19 below zero there!

I saw this on face book. Powerful!

Parents who worry about raising their children in today's world need to read the following:

Raise them up to know the power they walk in as children of God.

Train them up in the authority of His Word.

Teach them to walk in faith knowing that God is in control.

Empower them to know they can change the world.

Don’t teach them to be fearful and disheartened by the state of the world but hopeful that they can do something about it.

Every person in all of history has been placed in the time that they were in because of God’s sovereign plan.

He knew Daniel could handle the lions den.

He knew David could handle Goliath.

He knew Esther could handle Haman.

He knew Peter could handle persecution.

He knows that your child can handle whatever challenge they face in their life. He created them specifically for it!

Don’t be scared for your children, but be honored that God chose YOU to parent the generation that is facing the biggest challenges of our lifetime.

Rise up to the challenge.

Raise Daniels, Davids, Esthers and Peters!

God isn’t scratching His head wondering what He’s going to do with this mess of a world.

He has an army He’s raising up to drive back the darkness and make Him known all over the earth.

Don’t let your fear steal the greatness God placed in them. I know it’s hard to imagine them as anything besides our sweet little babies, and we just want to protect them from anything that could ever be hard on them, but they were born for such a time as this.

Good thought from 1 Nephi:

And inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments,

ye shall prosper, and shall be led to a land of

promise; yea, even a land which I have prepared

for you; yea, a land which is choice above all

other lands.  1 Nephi 2:20

The Savior, Jesus Christ
First-born Spirit Child of
our Heavenly Father
& Heavenly Mother...
Redeemer of All Mankind.

Someday we are going to come face-to-face with Him again. Every single person is going to have the opportunity to stand before Jesus. What will you feel? What will He say?

I'm convinced that, as we look into His eyes, we're going to experience the most overpowering feeling of love! Pure and undeniable... Without question... LOVE! And within Christ's love, we'll know that we are completely understood. Heart and mind. Intentions and actions. Known and loved.

I can almost hear Him say it now... "I'm so happy to see you again! You don't know how much I've missed you. I know it's been hard, but I was there. I've always been there." And taking us into His arms, Jesus will say; "oh, how I love you! It's all going to be okay now. Come, follow me."

At the end of this January 14th,

Heavenly Father lives and knows us each by name. He loves us and wants us to return to Him and Heavenly Mother when we leave this mortal existence.
He loves us just
as we are at this very moment.
He knows what our potential is.
