February 15, 2016 - Monday ~ ~ Presidents' Day
LaRae Crane and I went visiting teaching.
She made Rice Krispie treats with valentine M&M's in them for each sister.
LaRae pointed out in the lesson that marriage and family didn't used to have to be defended.
For Presidents' Day Tyler Gerratt came with his grandfather, Rex Gerratt, to get our renewal for the Boy Scout project to put up flags for the holidays. It is $25 for one year.
They usually take the flags down before sunset, but since they are collecting for a new year, it has taken them longer.
It's so nice on holidays to see the flags on so many lawns all over town.
For Family Home Evening we read through the Sunday School Lesson #8: "O How Great the Goodness of Our God" Nephi 9 and 10, to help us understand our need for the Atonement of Jesus Christ and to teach us how to receive all the blessings of the Atonement. We also read some of the scripture references for this lesson.
And we read the subtitles for the Priesthood/Relief Society from Teachings of Presidents of the Church - Howard W. Hunter - Lesson #4: "Help from on High." Focus: "Perhaps no promise in life is more reassuring than that promise of divine assistance and spiritual guidance in times of need."
Refreshments for our family home evening were ice cream cones from our freezer. For an activity we watched the end of an old movie about the life of the Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, who served on this highest legal entity in the United States from 1902-1932.
February 16, 2016 - Tuesday
Today we caught up on things at home, I baked and frosted some Valentine sugar cookies to take to Walt's home teaching families. He now has seven: David and Alice, Dan, Jean, Ruth, Marizza, Darrell and MaryAnn, and Mark and LeAnn.
It was 62 degrees today so Walt wanted to go out and work on the fence, but he just went to check it out. Tom and Irene, our neighbors, were out raking their backyard.
I had my 3-month check in with our Internist, Dr. Spackman. I'm doing well. He reminded me to walk every day and to keep that culprit "sugar" out of my diabetic life. My A1C is down to 6.7. (I called it AC1 and the doctor jokingly told me I have to get the lingo right.)
We like Dr. Spackman very much. He came to Burley from Canada about the same time his friend, Dr. Bernie Boemer came from Canada in 1995 to take over Walt's medical practice when Walt was called as a mission president.
Seems impossible that that was 21 years ago!~
When Julie called us today she asked if we had any tulips coming up. Brent and Vicki, John's parents, here in Burley said theirs are coming up. So Walt went outside and sure enough, there are some tulips coming up.
Here's a closeup of the tulips.
Walt told me my coal was still at the back of the wood pile.

Walt got a call from Jaime López in San Salvador, then he called back when Rafael Majano could talk when he had finished his sealing session.
This is the happy look Walt gets when he's talking with family or friends.
Tonight was our Serendipity Book Club at the home of Susan Young. Susan gave the "Whet Your Appetite" for Kathy Barrus who had children call her just before book club to say they were driving through and would spend the night.
The "Whet Your Appetite" was
Gladys and Rollo went to Israel October 29 to Nov. 11, 2015. During these 11 days they walked, walked, walked to many places in the Holy Land.
