Remembering my Mom and Dad’s “78th” Wedding Anniversary.
   September 29, 1937 they eloped.

    My Dad was 24, my Mom 17 ¾ .
Arnold George Albertson - Verna Beth Huffaker - Sep 1937

Arnold and Verna
My parents on their 25th Wedding Anniversary
–September 29, 1962.

Daddy age 49, Mom age 42
They would be together for just 19 1/2 years
more for a total of 44 1/2 years on this earth.

Here's a good photo of them in the line at our
wedding reception on June 17, 1961.
They had been sealed on June 14, 1961,
in the Salt Lake Temple
on the day Walt and I
were married in that Temple.

***** They are now together for eternity.
Mom stopped having her hair colored at the age of 70, while she was serving a mission in the London England South Mission - 1989 to 1991.

(I did list all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but for privacy I have taken their names out.  When I have this year's blog made into a published book, I will put their names back in for our family.)

September 30, 2015 - Wednesday
As we were walking up to the Twin Falls Temple today, I tried to get a photo of the beautiful flowers along the north side.  They probably don't show up very well.
Then when we came out I did get a close up of the ornamental grass that reminds us of the beautiful pampa grass in Argentina.
We rendezvoused with Dale and Conner to do the 3:00 temple session.
It's always peaceful to be in the temple and do the endowment work for someone who didn't live when the priesthood temple ordinances had been restored to the earth.
Today we chose to have dinner at the Sizzler. I told them I needed to get some vegetables and fruits on my record.
They were all good with that..
Walt and Dale look more and more like their Dad, Ray, as they get older.  However, Grampa Ray didn't really get old.  He died of a heart attack in February 1971 at the age of 63.
Looking for one of the last photos we have of Raymond O. Petersen.  This is all I could come up with for now, from our wedding reception line.  Grampa Ray was 53 in this June 1961 photo.  I had not realized until now that he died ten years after we were married.
I know we have some more photos, but I guess not in the computer.  I'll have to do some scanning.
We love you, Grampa Ray, and still miss you.
We are still surprised that "we" are the "older generation" in the family now.
We love being with Dale and Connie each week.  We're planning a drive up to Stanley Basin on October 12 and 13.
They took a close up photo of us.  I asked them to try to get some of the pampa grass in. (Seems like any day we could have a frost and these beautiful summer/fall flowers and ornamental grasses will be gone until spring.)

October 1, 2015 - Thursday

We had a wonderful Central America missionary reunion dinner with the MTC president and wife--D. Kelly and Marcia Ogden; and two mission presidents who we worked with during our medical advisor 2-year mission there--March 2005 to February 2007.

Scott and Janis Farrell, were mission president and wife of the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission.  President    and Sister Michelle Call were president and wife of the El Salvador San Salvador West and Belize Mission.  With them is their daughter Megan who is a coed at BYU now.

On the far right is Mimi who lived in Guatemala then and now lives in Utah.
We appreciate our host and hostess, Scott and Janis Farrell.
They always make this gathering such a pleasant and happy time together.
Mimi's son, Sam, took the photo of all of us together.
Their home is beautiful and decorated so nicely for each season.
The sparkly apple cider was refreshing and the food delicious!

And today--October 1st--a countdown showed these many days until the upcoming fall and winter holidays.
October 2, 2015 - Friday
It was fun to be with Julie and John today in their home and see the kids head to school.
It was a cloudy, rainy day -- but a fun day.
next  We got to go to Jackson's patriotic program "Ellis Island."  We were so proud of Jackson.  He told about his ancestor James Chilton.
His teacher told about how she loved America, having become a U.S. citizen after she came here from South Africa.
Here are Julie and Jackson in front of the school where Jackson is a 5th grader and Maddie a 3rd grader.  How fast our grandchildren are growing up!
In the afternoon Julie picked some of the pumpkins from her big pumpkin patch in their back yard.
Walt got to "supervise."
And I also got to watch.

October 3, 2015 - Saturday
We watched the morning session of General Conference. Julie and John and kids were with David and Julie and their kids picking out rental skis for the winter's skiing.
We decided to head home to watch the afternoon session there, listening to the rest of the morning session on the car radio.

We were about to Brigham City when David called.  He didn't know we were on the road and said he and Steve and Gary and their sons 12 and above wanted to go to the Priesthood Session with Dad.
We turned around and headed back, getting to David's home just in time for a delicious soup lunch before the afternoon session started.

Saturday afternoon session...
What a great historical day to have three new apostles chosen.  They are numbers 98, 99, and 100, for these latter days since the Church has been restored to the earth and officially organized in 1830.
I will post about the new apostles later.
Then before the men and Aaronic Priesthood boys headed out for the evening session, we had pizza.  David and Julie are always so gracious and great hosts.
Then Jackson and Sam helped Grampa take his suitcase back out to the car after he put his suit on. And they helped Grampa go down and then up the front steps safely.  What nice helpers!
Next year Jackson will be old enough to go to the Priesthood Session, and Sam will be in three years.
Here are the guys before heading out.  Gary had flat tire problems, so he and Jake got to the Stake Center to rendezvous with the others just as the General Priesthood Session started at 6:00.
(Josh was at the Shakespeare Festival in Southern Utah with his Corner Canyon High School. They got a trophy for sweepstakes....can't remember what in.)
(Here's Josh holding the trophy.

Grampa, Kimble, Carter, Steve, and David.
Jake said when they went to David and Julie's home after the session, there were lots of different kinds of ice cream.
Gary drove Dad back to Saratoga Springs with them.
Jake said he liked the talks about the deacons that President Monson gave.  And President Eyring's talk about teenagers was really interesting to him because he becomes one in two weeks!

October 4, 2015 - Sunday
I helped make the gravy for the biscuits 'n gravy.
Julie also made crepes--which she and Jackson had with strawberries and whipped cream.
John also mixed cinnamon rolls.

We had a yummy breakfast at Julie and John's before General Conference began.
.
It was great watching the Sunday morning session of General Conference with Julie, John, Jacee, Jackson, Maddie, and Rigdon.   I didn't get a photo.

After the morning session, everyone help us take our things to the car, and with some of John's fresh cinnamon rolls, we headed back to Idaho.
John and Julie put up really fun decorations for the fall and for Halloween.  We always love being with them in their home!

We listened to the The Agony and the Ecstacy on the way until the afternoon session of General Conference began.

Every time we go by this old barn, we think of how Grama A wanted to do a painting of it.  It is just out of Tremonton on the way northwest, and is exactly 100 miles from Burley.

We got home to Burley just in time to see and hear Elder David A. Bednar's great closing address.  Here is a summary:
He mentioned that for the past 11 years he has been the youngest of the 12 Apostles.  He was ordained an apostle Oct. 7, 2004, at the age of 52.  He is now 63.

"Chosen to Bear Testimony of My Name”
Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
"My purpose is to explain why indeed it is wonderful to have older men of great spiritual maturity and judgment serving in the senior leadership positions of the restored Church of Jesus Christ—and why we should “hear” and “hearken” (Mosiah 2:9) to the teachings of these men whom the Lord has “chosen to bear testimony of [His] name … among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people” (D&C 112:1). … … These men have had a sustained season of tutoring by the Lord, whom they represent, serve, and love. They have learned to understand the divine language of the Holy Spirit and the Lord’s patterns for receiving revelation. These ordinary men have undergone a most extraordinary developmental process that has sharpened their vision, informed their insight, engendered love for people from all nations and circumstances, and affirmed the reality of the Restoration. … “Whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same” (D&C 1:38). May we hear and heed the eternal truths taught by the Lord’s authorized representatives. As we do so, I promise our faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will be fortified, and we will receive spiritual guidance and protection for our specific circumstances and needs."

It was so touching when Elder Bednar showed President Hinckley and shared his last General Conference testimony, and of Elder Faust and then showed a photo of each of the three apostles who have passed away this year and shared their final General Conference testimonies.

To get the full impact of this message and each message given, we hope to pull them up and watch them again, and, of course, read them in the May 2015 Ensign.

Below is a great visual of the First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles with the three new ones who were sustained at this October 2015 General Conference, with the quote about them from Elder Bednar.

Elder Rasband    is age 64.
Elder Stevenson is age 60.
Elder Renlund    is age 62.
There are now two apostles younger than Elder Bednar.

Sunday evening we went to the viewing of our friend Delano Greener at the Rasmussen Funeral Home.  The Hitts, from Malta, came in just as we did.  There was a long line--probably an hour wait.  The Hitts insisted that we go sit on the benches in the viewing room, and then get in line when they got to the front.  That was so kind of them!
Here is the wedding photo of Delano and Mary, along with their 50th wedding anniversary photo.
Here is a great saying the kids had on display about their Dad: "Some people don't believe in HEROES but they haven't met my Dad."
I think our kids would say that about their Dad, too.
Here is the red tractor that Delano used on their 30-acre farm.
Here is their family photo of their six children: Benjamin, Bryce, Janet, Darla, Barney, and Brent.
Here is a scripture we love to see in homes:
Our friend, Susan Neibaur, had something important to tell Walt.
We saw many friends.  And there were several patients Walt has helped over his 40 years as a physician here in Burley.
It has been a wonderful Sabbath Day.
We add our humble testimony to the many shared this General Conference of Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2015...

We believe that God lives and loves us.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who is our Redeemer and Savior.

We believe that Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration.

We believe the Bible is a Testament of Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and is the most correct book of any on the earth as Joseph Smith testified it was.

We believe that President Thomas S. Monson is the living Prophet of God for the entire earth today.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Walter and Eileen Petersen - Burley, I D A H O
