This week in Burley, I D A H O

This week - Monday, February 23 to Sunday March 1, 2015
February 23 - Monday
Day #4 in the hospital - Post Op Day 3 of surgery for a total hip replacement on Feb. 20 because of fall Feb. 19 after tripping on a curb and falling very hard onto a driveway.
The physical therapist taught Walt how to go and down the stairs...the "good" goes up to heaven; the "bad" goes down below.

He was walked a long distance two times...
The occupational physical therapist taught him how to use some gadgets that he can pull his socks on without bending more that 90 degrees at the waist, elastic shoe laces that you use to just pull your shoes on like slip on shoes, and a long handled shoe tongue to slip your shoes on.
Inhaling to keep the lungs from collapsing.
Dave and Marilyn Gibbons came again to help cheer him up.
Brent and Vicki Peterson--our son-in-law, John's parents--came to visit.  Brent is recuperating from knee surgery done a couple of weeks ago.  We always enjoy being with them.
Time to check those vital signs.
Then  I slipped away for our monthly neighborhood empty-nesters dinner and family home evening.  Ken & Bonnie Fronk were the host and hostess for February.
They chose to have dinner by candlelight.  It was very romantic for the Valentine month.  I really missed Walt being there.
The menu was pork roast, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, tossed salad, corn, fruit salad, and rolls.  For dessert was cheese cake topped with cherries and Texas chocolate sheet cake.
I didn't get a photo of the main course, but here's the yummy dessert.  We have very good cooks in our neighborhood.  The assigned pot luck dinners are always delicious! Thanks everyone.

We had a fun program of answering three questions:
1. What is something left on your bucket list?
Some of the answers I can remember were: "Going to New York City; climbing to the base camp of Mt. Everest; going on an Alaska Cruise; taking my wife to Bangkok; going on another mission; finding a companion as sweet as my wife who passed away; going on a mission; going to 50 LDS temples.  (I wrote some of the rest down but can't the list now.)

2 . What is something you would never do?
Never read a talk or an article for a talk; never go on a zip line; never murder anyone; never leave the Church; never...

3. Can't even remember the third question...

Then Bonnie concluded with a story about someone who wanted to go somewhere but the train took them to another destination. The lesson was that life doesn't go exactly as "we" planned it. We should do the best we can with what "the plan" turns out for our life.
Here are the sixteen of us all together.
Front: Don Melling, Dan Black, Gary McCall, Dave and Marilyn Gibbons.
Second row: Bonnie and Ken Hansen, Elaine Anderson, Bonnie Fronk, Jacqueline Gorton, Darrell and MaryAnn Roskelley.
Back row: Ken Fronk, Scott Bloxham, George Gorton.
Same group, except Bonnie took the photo for me to be in this one.
Then I went back to the hospital to see how Walt was and to tell him goodnight.
February 24 - Tuesday
Gene and Diane Hansen came from Paul to see Walt.
We were told Walt would be leaving for Countryside Care and Rehabilitation in Rupert at 11:00 a.m.   So Walt was all ready to go then.  At 2:30 when they still had not come to get him, the nurse helped him walk around the loop.
Finally at 3:15 the Countryside van arrived.

The gal wheeled him right into the van and hooked the wheelchair in place and off they went the three miles to Rupert.
He was taken to Room 317.
Now the adventure of rehabilitation begins.
Vital signs taken to start his medical chart at Countryside.
Rachel comes to fill out the admission forms.

Then time for us to be together and talk about the day.
After five days in the Intermountain Cassia Regional Medical Center, on Post Op Day #4, begins Day #1 in the Rehabilitation Center.

February 28 - Saturday

March 1, 2015 - Sunday
Hope you have had a peaceful and restful Sabbath Day.
We were taught today at a Satellite Conference by Elder Brent H. Nielson today that we need to bury our weapons of rebellion. He gave his witness that God lives. We can become like Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. He expressed gratitude for the Healing Power of the Savior.

Elder L. Tom Perry, Apostle, left of with an Apostolic Blessing of the sure promise that the Savior will be with us every hour of the day.

We are thankful for being led by Apostles, Prophets, and Seers, and by Seventies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
We testify that the Head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus Christ, Himself.
