Last evening he developed significant pain in his back. Because of some illeus (when the air doesn't go through the bowel correctly after surgery) he said the pain medication might slow that going back to normal. Finally at 2a.m. he did take a pain pill and was able to sleep.
This morning, he said to me sadly: "Maybe I won't be able to go back as soon as I had hoped."
The photo below was taken on Christmas Day after Church. Our stake center is next to our San Salvador El Salvador Temple. We have been in El Salvador since July 20. The temple was dedicated on August 21, and opened the next day, Monday, August 22.
Our official 3-year call began on November 1, 2011 and is scheduled to go until November 1, 2014.
Before breakfast today he took half of a pain pill, but then took the other half about 30 minutes later. He then slept for a while in the recliner.
Dr. Rich had told him four weeks, instead of the two weeks Walt had hoped for.
The New Recliner
Julie told me she was planning to buy John a nice recliner for Father's Day--which is the 3rd Sunday in June. Last night she said she had to run an errand. The next thing we knew here she and John were carrying in a beautiful new recliner. She said she had been able to bargain them down at Sofa Mart.
Here is Julie helping Grampa sit in it for the first time.
I asked Julie and John to stand behind the recliner for a photo. They really got behind it!
It reclines back very nicely. Walt said it helped his back feel better.
Tuesday we received a beautiful arrangement of flowers in a basket with a card saying: "Wishing You A Speedy Recovery, From: Your Friends at the Temple Department."
Beautiful flower arrangement from the Temple Department.
On Wednesday I posted the photo of the beautiful flowers from Dale & Connie and kids.
