Today we both had

follow-up appointments

with dr. spackman.

he had checked with several

physicians in burley, and

not one has heard of the

disease i was diagnosed with

last week at the

'

university of utah 

medical center..

I guess i have a rare disease:

r s3 pe...

we are thankful to the expertise

of dr. spackman and of his

sending me to where this

diagnosis could be made.

Then this afternoon

our podiatrist,

dr. wettstein,

checked our feet. 

 we are blessed to have

these great physicians

available in

burley, idaho

tonight at our

serendipity  book

and study club

we had bob and jacque kay

come to tell us about their

year in the 

germany frankfurt mission.


June Tilley was scheduled

for the book review but

she has broken her ankle,

so she helped make the

arrangements for

the kays, who have recently

returned from germany,

to come.

delores green was our

gracious hostest in her

beautiful home.

we were happy that

karma's daughter brought

her.

karen robins gave a fun

whet your appetite on a

book by sir walter scott

lady of the lake

about first love

and best love.

karen also made these

delicious brownies for

everyone.

we need the recipe...

bonnie hansen brought 

fun door prizes that

were won

by eileen, ilene, linda, bob,

and

a good time was enjoyed

by all.

The diasnosis of this rare

disease i have was

made within a day and a half

at the university of utah

medical center:

RS3PE = rEMITTING

SERONEGATIVE SYMMETRICAL SYNOVITIS WITH PITTING EDEMA

My diagnosis is "Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema = RS3PE.

The paper they gave me says:

"Through the following case report, we hope to improve the diagnosis of RS3PE to two other common polyarthritic conditions affecting the elderly."

So I can say: "I have RS3PE, a polyarthritic condition affecting the elderly."

IT'S A DERITIVE OF GOUT/PSEUDO GOUT

IN THE FIELD OF RHEUMATOLOGY.

THE RHEUMATLOGY DEPT. AT U OFU

WILL DO MY FOLLOW UP.

IT IS NOT CURABLE, BUT TREATABLE.

WHEN THEY GAVE ME 3 PREDNISONE

PILLS...THE SWELLING AND THE

PAIN WERE GONE OVERNIGHT.

(AS OF MARCH 12 I WAS DOWN TO

TWO PREDNISONE PILLS A DAY AND

WILL BE TAPERED DOWN TO (EACH PILL IS 5 ?MILIGRAMS, ?UNITES OR

HOWEVER IT'S MEASURED)  TILL I'M ON JUST 1 UNIT.

THIS IS PLANNED FOR 9-12 MONTHS TIME.

PREDNISONE MAKES BLOODSUGAR

GO UP, SO DURING THIS 

TIME I WILL GIVE MYSELF

12 UNITS OF INJECTABLE INSULIN

IN MY STOMACH EACH MORNING,

THEN 12 UNITS EACH NIGHT.

REALLY THE NEEDLE IS SO SMALL,

IT DOES NOT HURT.

THE PRICK IN MY FINGER TO

GET THE BLOOD SUGAR COUNT

HURTS MORE.

NATIONAL BALLROOM CHAMPIONSHIPS 

AT THE MARRIOTT CENTER

AT BYU.

ASHLEY IS IN HER "COMPETITION MAKE-UP" SINCE SHE CAME

TO SEE ME BETWEEN HER MORNING AND AFTERNOON COMPETITIONS.

A BEAUTIFUL GRANDDAUGHTER --

LATER THE NURSE MADE SURE I WAS

GIVING THE INSULIN INJECTION CORRECTLY...

Ross and Karen just happened to call walt and that's how they found out i was in the hospital.

THEN IT WAS TIME FOR JANIE AND ASHLEY TO HEAD BACK TO PROVO FOR MORE BALLROOM COMPETITION...

landing in minneapolis,

to rohester, minnesota.
