And now it's on to  A U T U M N...

Monday - September 5, 2016 - LABOR DAY

Julie helped us get some more of our direct pay changed over to our new account.
We got lunch for everyone at Wendy's, and Arctic Circle's drive thrus, then had lunch at Julie and John's home.
The kids had chicken rings from the A.C.
I got chili at Wendy's, Dad had a cheeseburger from Arctic Circle.
John got the Baconator from Wendy's saying: "Everything you want on it and nothing you don't!"  Julie had an A.C. burger or cheeseburger from the A.C., as did Gary.

Then it was time to get ready to...
...finish canning the peaches that had been too green to can on Saturday.
Here are the peaches to freeze for Gary.
Here's the canning crew...Gary, Walt, Julie.

Plus I helped a little...
Then it was time to head home to Idaho.
We got home to Burley by sunset--a few minutes after eight o'clock and were so tickled that the flags were still out for the national holiday.
We knew the boy scouts and their leaders would be by any time to collect them to put in storage until the next national holiday.  It's just a $25 donation per year to have this great service, plus it is a good way for the boy scouts to earn money.
And we were just getting our car unloaded when Bishop Gerratt and his son Tyler came and gathered the flag.  They also helped us carry in some cases of the fruit jars that we'd taken with us and hadn't needed to use.  That was really appreciated!  But I didn't have them stop for me to take a photo because they needed to gather a few more flags.
It was a great Labor Day weekend "laboring" a little to help Julie and Gary re-learn how to can.  Gary remembers when he'd come home from school and open the front door to a "steamy house."  "I knew we were in for a late afternoon and early evening of helping to can," he remembers.
It didn't seem so fun to him them, but now he says it is a very pleasant memory.

Tuesday - September 6, 2016

We slept in and forgot all about Walt's appointment with his cardiologist that morning.  We called that afternoon and they rescheduled him for the next Tuesday when the cardiologist comes to Burley from Twin Falls.
I took no photos today.
We just kinda recuperated from the weekend activities.

Wednesday - September 7, 2016

We rendezvoused with Dale and Connie for the three o'clock session at the Twin Falls Temple.
We tried to get some of the beautiful flowers and oriental grass in the photo.  Since the weather has turned chilly early, we don't know when the flowers will freeze.
Walt's turn to choose = Idaho Joe's. Just a good "Ma & Pa" old fashioned home cookin' spot on the north side of the Lynwood Shopping Mall.  Walt even chose chicken fried steak.  It wasn't quite as good as it had been at Norm's two weeks before.

Thursday - September 8, 2016

I went to the Burley Library Book Club this afternoon. Kathleen Hedberg had the discussion on Finding Samuel Lowe by Wanda
I didn't take a photo. Sometimes I get so engrossed in what's going on that I just forget to get a photo reminder of some great events.
There was a great discussion of Wanda learning about her Chinese grandfather who had left her Jamaican grandmother years before when he returned to China with a Chinese bride.

I baked bread when I got home and we took a loaf of hot bread over to Dick and Jan Huzinga who had lost their 57-year-old daughter Fran on Monday after her long battle with cancer.  She and her husband had been in Burley with the Huzingas since the Spring going through chemo and other treatments.

Friday - September 9, 2016

Our grandson, Jackson John Peterson had his 12th birthday
 today.

    “12”

 Sept. 9, 2016

Jackson, we love you!
Hope you are having a great birthday.

Kathleen Hedberg came to help us for two hours on our family history.

I drove Walt to the Methodist Church for the viewing before the two o'clock funeral.  Then I dashed over for my monthly hair cut appointment at 1;00 (which the time is made a month ahead and I really needed my hair cut before going to Utah for the weekend).

I was back at the church by 1:40 and Walt had saved a seat for me.  It was a very nice funeral, and Fran's two sisters--Jennifer and Dawn, shared a wonderful life sketch of their sister, Fran.

Dick wrote in the obituary how much he and Jan appreciated the help of their sister-in-law, Ann Cueva Huzinga, in staying day and night for the last five days of Fran's life in taking care of her around the clock.
At the cemetery, I was able to take a photo of Jan with her four half-sisters.  Jan's daughters are on each end.
I'm trying to see which photo turned out the best to send to Jan.
Ann Cueva worked several years with Dr. Ellingham (I think--I need to check this out) , then she was a nurse practioner for many years. (Maybe she is a P.A. Physician Assistant.)
We admire and love Ann.  She has helped so many in our community.
This is Fran's son looking at his Mom's casket.  It's always hard to lose a mother.
It's so hard to lose a child.  It was good they had good weather to be at the cemetery for her final resting place.

Here is a view of where Fran is buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Here is the touching obituary that Dick wrote for his daughter, Fran.

Frances Ann Huizinga Peck

Mar. 4, 1959 - Sep. 5, 2016

Date of Service: Sep. 9, 2016

BURLEY – Frances Ann Huizinga Peck, age 57, of Tiger Lake - Belfair, Wash., passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at her parents’ home in Burley surrounded by her loving husband, Mark Peck and her family. Fran gave up her valiant battle with cancer and our sweet girl is now with Jesus.

Fran was born in Burley, Idaho, on March 4, 1959, to R.A. Dick and Janice Cazier Huizinga. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Art Huizinga and Ann Robertson; maternal grandparents, Bryan and Mildred Cazier; and her husband’s grandparents, Joe and Margaret Higley and Darrell and Dorothy Peck. Growing up she was a loving girl who possessed a talent to excel in whatever she chose to do, whether it was cooking learned from her mother or fishing and all other outdoor activities with Dad and Grandpa.

Early in life, Fran expressed a love of horses. After watching the E Capa Indian Riders at the rodeo, she decided to emulate them, but to also take it one step further. These riders rode with only a neck strap, but Fran rode in the arena - jumps and all - at breathtaking speed, bareback with no neck strap, using only her hands, knees and voice to control her horse “Twist”. Leading people in the horse community expressed openly, “Fran Huizinga is the best female rider I have ever seen.” She also worked at the pool as a lifeguard, at the radio station for her dad, and was a member of 4-H; school however, was not on her top ten. After being enrolled in summer school to supposedly catch up, she was tested by the faculty, and to everyone’s surprise, she tested in the very high range. Turns out, school was just boring to her.

Fran married Mark Peck on June 22, 1984, and they have two children, Sarah Sullivan and Richard Peck, both residing in the Seattle, Washington area; and three grandchildren, Tyler and Audrey Sullivan and Alexis Peck. In addition to their own children, Fran and Mark opened their hearts and home to many foster children, the majority of which they remain in close contact with and have assumed family status over the years. Their contributions have shaped the lives and happiness of these children forever.

Fran followed her husband through his career; first to Utah as a corrugator supervisor, then to Seattle where Mark was a superintendent of corrugator operations, then to James Hardy, where her husband traveled overseeing operations in Washington, Texas, Florida; then to Texas again where they operated their own business. As an ever-supporting wife, she made the extensive travel work for everyone. Fran made a beautiful home for Mark on an acreage on Tiger Lake in Washington. Her extensive talent to make and create made their home an astounding fairy land. Everywhere inside and out caused a person to smile and say, “Wow!” Her ability for beauty was matched by her skill in the kitchen – a talent inherited from Mom and Grandma. But, above all else was her ability to make friends. Everybody loved the girl with the big, big laugh and the way she treated them. Fran found Jesus, went on the walk to Emmaus and continued to be his disciple in every way. She was a member and officer of United Methodist Women, and a member of PEO chapter BB.

Our hearts are broken, but we know she is truly happy now.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Burley United Methodist Church, 450 E. 27th St., where friends may call from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. preceding the service. The Reverend Dr. Scott Allen and Pastor Mitchell Hodge will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank St. Luke’s and Encompass Hospice for their help and especially to Ann Cueva, who spent 24 hours a day during the final days caring for our Fran. Please direct your memorials to a cancer research of your choice or to the Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI) in Twin Falls.  {End of obituary}

We pray the Huizinga family and Peck family will feel the loving arms of the Savior around them and be comforted in knowing they will be with her again in heaven.  And that we all will be resurrected because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

We canned the rest of the Hale peaches today that were now ripe enough.  We also froze some of them.

Never forget - 15 years ago on September 11, 2001

We went to our Sacrament Meeting from 10:50 a.m. to 12:00 noon, then we drove to Saratoga Springs, Utah, for Jackson having the Aaronic Priesthood conferred upon him and being ordained to the office of a deacon.

His father, John, did this ordination and also in the Priesthood circle were his Grandfathers Brent Peterson, Walter Petersen, the Bishop, and I don't have the name of the one on the right.
Here is Jackson with his Mom and Dad.
Jackson with his Dad and Mom and siblings,
Another photo with his family.
Jackson with his Dad, John Peterson, and Grandfathers, Brent Peterson and Walter Petersen.
Jackson with his Grandfathers and Grandmothers Brent and Vicki Peterson and Walt and Eileen Petersen.
And with his cousin, McCoy Peterson who just moved back to Burley, Idaho with his parents Glade and Amber Peterson from Florida.  Brent and Vicki brought McCoy with them as a surprise for Jackson.
We were happy to be able to be with Jackson on his special day.

John and Julie had Sunday dinner ready at the end of their 3-hour block - 2:30-5:30.
Nothing beats roast beef, mashed potatoes 'n gravy, veggies, and monkey bread.
Then some of Jackson's cousins attending BYU were the first to arrive for the extended family gathering.
Then more PetersOn family arrived...
And more PetersEn family also there were Gary and David standing by Walt.
Steve and Natalie, Kimble and Carter..
Walt, David, and Steve....
Brent and Vicki had to leave because they are driving back to Montana tomorrow from Burley, and stopping in Idaho Falls to have lunch with all of her 5 sisters and her brother...

They were very touched when Walt told them how impressed he is with John and how he and Julie are raising their kids.
Bubba was their with his fiancé.
Walt with three of his four sons--David, Gary, and Steve. (Brian lives in Tennessee.)
Walt and Eileen with David, Gary, and Steve.
And Kimble and Carter...
Some of John's sisters and brothers-in-law--Tonga, Nicole, Steve, and Tiffany.  John's niece Taylor is also in this photo, as is Julie.  John's sister Geni was also there along with other nieces who are pictured above.
A great family day.

We hope you have had a peaceful and restful Sabbath Day.
The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints has been restored to the earth.
The Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods have been restored to the earth.
Our grandson, Jackson John Peterson, has had the Aaronic Priesthood conferred upon him at the age of 12, and ordained to the office of a deacon.
Heavenly Father lives and loves each one of us.
Jesus Christ, His Son, is our Redeemer and Savior through His Atoning Sacrifice.
Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration.
Thomas S. Monson is the Living Prophet of the entire earth today.
The Bible is a Testament of Jesus Christ.
The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
We look forward to the Second Coming of the Savior

Of this we testify at the close of this Sabbath Day -
